The sea is a source of rich and diverse mechanisms of various ecology. Protecting the delicate balance that facilitates all of these things is outstandingly complex, but as far as our part as humans go- relatively simple -Do Not Litter. It is stunning what difference cleanliness can make when copy and pasted onto things as complex as a subterranean ecosystem.
